Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
Who is able to removed copyrighted material from IA? Is there only 1 or 2 people who can do it? Have you asked whoever uploaded it in the first place to take it down? I've seen people remove stuff they've uploaded to IA when it was believed they uploaded copyrighted material.

Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
Maybe the uploader will read this thread and get the message. Usually when I flag a film it either gets results or I get told why. But like I said, all I can do is point it out when I catch it. The rest is up to the powers-that-be. I've done what could. It's up to whoever now. If the uploader or the staff doesn't move on it, that's the way it goes.

Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
You can find all the copyright stuff by selecting "recent uploads" and clicking every other link. The weird part is the shit can be found a million other places, why people keep uploading here is a mystery. I wouldn't waste my own time uploading something you can get on shared sites or torrents... weird.

Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
True enough. I've seen this and a few others on quite a few other sites. What I like about this site is usually what you see here really is pd for the most part, so I can take what's here, make my own dvds and sell them if I choose and not worry too much about any reprisals. A lot of other sites that claim their stuff is pd, from what I've seen, only about one percent of it really is. Oddly enough, when I do find something that is pd over there, it has the same description, word for word, of the same title available here. Go figure.

That's so true Guy. I think I know where someone is getting some of this copyrighted material. That film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes had a link to another site that was supposedly all PD stuff. In fact someone marked every film on that site as being PD when some of it obviously wasn't.

I sent an email to info@archive.org about it. Perhaps that will do the trick!

Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
Jeff I know how everyone feels. I tried to get the 1963 Charade remove after it was shown to be copyrighted and it's still here, and has been downloaded 6072 times.

Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
I'm not sure that Charade has been proven to be copyrighted. If the screenplay had been based on a copyrighted novel, then if the film production bought the film rights for the book it might still be PD. Read this:
www.lehmannstrobel.com/files/pdfs/acquiring-story-rights.pdfBut Charade is an interesting case because the story was originally a screenplay that was later turned into a novel so perhaps one could argue that the book is a derivative of the film and not vice versa. Read this:
http://screenwritingfromiowa.wordpress.com/2010/05/04/novel-vs-screenplay-writing-tip-37/The same is true for the music as long as it is "synchronized" with the film. The fact that the music is separately copyrighted means that you can't use the music separately just because the film is PD.

Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
The problem with Charade is the same as It's A Wonderful Life.
Charade is in the public domain while it's soundtrack isn't,so the only legal way Charade could be PD would be to remove the music, but I doubt that will happen.

Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
The story was originally written as a screenplay By Stone and Behm which was unpublished and unsold. The screenplay was adapted into a novel by Stone and published (serialised in magazine form). The film rights to this story were then purchased by Stanley Donen and a new screenplay was written by Stone. The film rights to the story and screenplay were then transferred to Universal Pictures. However, the copyright was retained by Peter Stone as reflected in the renewal for the copyright:
The Unsuspecting wife; story. By Peter Stone.
Type of Work: Serial
Registration Number / Date: RE0000454442 / 1989-12-20
Renewal registration for: BB0000018113 / 1961-06-22
Title: The Unsuspecting wife; story. By Peter Stone.
Appears in: Redbook magazine, July 1961
Copyright Claimant: Peter Stone (A)
Variant title: The Unsuspecting wife
Names: Stone, Peter

If it's any consolation to you, I wrote a review reminding people it's not PD.

Maybe the guy who removes copyrighted material is "awaiting input from regular staff":) No, I'll never let them live that one down.

Re: Copyright Flag - second notice |
I'm too tired to do my own copyrite checking! They must do it for me or else I will call the cops! Lamest bully speech ever.
