Okay, the new screen works consistently but only on Google Chrome. However, when I go "full screen" the picture begins to strobe, flicker and stall. It only moves smoothly when reduced. There are still plenty of problems with this new screen.

that sounds like your machine characteristics aren't quite "enough" to blow up the video (in software -- not in hardware accelerated fullscreen like flash can hook into).
there's now a "I prefer flash" link at the bottom of the new player where, using
the new player, you can tell it to only serve flash-plugin audio/video instead of html5.
