It seems incredible to me that pandering to ios users is pushing the internet back into the dark ages. Html5 video playback is a thoroughly nasty experience compared to Flash, and will be for years to come.
As long as the Flash player is available as an alternative there is no problem, but are you really planning abandoning the majority of users for a small, albeit trendy, minority?

you seem to be overlooking that not everyone is in the same setup as you.

to wit, the html5 option is **much** better and more efficient for nearly all scenarios of:
-iOS
-any macos
-most linux
-some (maybe lots?) win7 + IE9 setups

macos/iOS do not have flash implementations where they can hook into a decent hardware acceleration of many of the video instructions --unlike the case for windows.

given the severity and utter rancor you have for html5,
i've add, to the bottom of the new player, a new
"I prefer flash"
link (which will still use the new player, but will not serve html5 as a possibility).

hopefully that will make the android setup happier?

PS: it's not like we dont like android (which is now just slightly less market share than iOS). we prefer it here for its more open ecosystem. however, we just dont have a lot of their devices here as readily available as iOS. the older player doesn't even work *at all* in iOS (and can't -- because it is "flash only").

I'm not particularly anti html5, I use it a lot. It's just that, at the moment it has a lot of limitations, no standard formats, and at the moment is definitely not cross browser compatible! No one would object to a new player that works properly, and the option to choose an alternative player is exactly what's needed. What most people object to (me included) is being told that this is going to be it from now on, whether it works on your system or not.
Flash is going to be around for years, people have far to much time and money invested in it to just dump it, and it's just so much more advanced. (Look at sites like http://www.audiotool.com/app . Try doing that in html5!)
Thank you for the 'I prefer flash' link, as long as it stays there until the other player is fully working, then I'm sure we'll all be happy bunnies :-)

yay/phew
[group hug]

ok, yes, we plan to leave that option there for a very long time.
agreed, htm5 is great mostly but is not solution for 100% of the setups/situations.

so no worries -- one of the reasons i stalked this particular player, the jwplayer, is because it does *both* htm5 and flash.

i should have made the toggle/preference sooner
my bad for not realizing that -- and in the same sentence, let me thank you and others for bringing that oversight to our attention!

cheers!
