Re: Railroad Earth: Like or not like? |
Really like RRE
as well as Donna the Buffalo
and Assembly of Dust.
Planning on going to Gathering of the vibes this July - Assembly of Dust & Strangefolk are playing. Bunch of other good bands as well.

Re: Railroad Earth: Like or not like? |
Love 'em loads. I'm obsessing these days about good songwriting and singing, and Todd Sheaffer's been one of the best. I think their best days might be behind them, though (up to about 2006); the newer songs don't seem so rich. Thinking about it, I'd say the same about Reid Genauer and Assembly Of Dust.
This nugget has Phil sitting in:

Also a fan of Reid, Strangefolk & AOD, & unfortunately may have to agree w/ your sentiments about best days being behind them, though I hope we're wrong. Not so certain about Todd & RRE, though certainly he's written & played some amazing stuff over the years, so he's set the bar pretty damn high....
Love the solo show you provided the link to....listening to Todd sing "Let It Rock" as I type this...he sounds so damn good!

Re: Railroad Earth: Like or not like? |
I rate 'em a 9 or 9.5 out of 10. Here's my favorite show from them:
http://archive.org/details/rre2003-04-26.matrix.shnfIt's been uploaded here for a long time and it .shn files so you can't stream it, but it's well worth the download. It was my second RRE show and was webcast on the now defunct Digital Club Network, so I'm hoping that someday the video of the show will surface.

Re: Railroad Earth: Like or not like? |
Yes. Margaret and I used to go 2 Friday's every month in our 20's. We'd have a good Mexican meal(w/ beer for about $20 for 2 people) and walk around the corner to the B St. Bistro and watch the Collette Bros. or any band that might have been playing. We felt so grown up.
Ygnacio, the guy with the mullet, is the son and a huge movie buff. He used to tell us all about movies which we had no plans to see with great enthusiasm.
There used to be a Vietnamese place called Hop Sinh, but it closed a few years back.

Re: Railroad Earth: Like or not like? |
Second most popular band on the IA based on my listening habits. I really like them. Saw them twice and would definitely recommend their live shows.

Have always enjoyed them but was a big fan of their earlier incarnation "From Good Homes".

Re: Railroad Earth: Like or not like? |
I love them, have seen 40 or so shows since 2005. I don't think their best days are behind them at all, but I like the gritty side more than the straight bluegrass of the earliest years. Unfortunately, the BEST shows I have seen them play were never recorded, e.g High sierra late night 2010 and the Fillmore Dec. 2009 shows. but check out the Aspen shows from March 2011.
