Forum: GratefulDead Subject: So I put up a Grateful Dead poster

.... in my office today. My boss retired and the office is mine, all mine (so is her job, heh heh) ... I get to redecorate.
I didn't put it in a highly visible location, not where you would see it immediately when you come in the office, but it's there. Maybe I'll get bolder eventually.

What's on the poster?

I would've put up a tie dyed skeleton and roses or SYF tapestry. No damned bears or terrapins though.

It's this:

If I could remember how to do the code thing-y, I'd paste it in.

Neat poster.

They played both Wesleyan and the Fillmore on 9/19/70?!?

Good question. They famously (well, famously if you're an alum) gave a concert at Wesleyan in May of that year, the day before Kent State, but this one really doesn't make a lot of sense. Mind you, I wasn't there; way too young :)

Ah -this has been discussed before - apparently it's a fake:
http://archive.org/post/199368/billing-with-the-kinks

They could easily have played at Wesleyan in the afternoon and then in the evening in NY - but the Kinks debuting Lola at Wesleyan? Seems like I'd have heard about that ..

Disappointing, I guess I should take it down, it makes me look like a wannabe, not able to identify fake concerts.

I bought a couple of posters in SF that I new weren't the real deal but got them because they were cheap but I didnt know that the dates were BS. One is the closing at Winterland which I knew wasnt the real dead ( the famous Rose one I wish )and in fact is the exact same background as yours only with a different band shot and the 12-31-78 info ( which is correct ) and another one advertising a free show in GG park in the 70's which never ever happened. Man that one pisses me off

Oh darn. Quick, get on eBay and find more posters! You need to decorate your office!

There was a high-up Important Guy at the university where I used to work whose whole office was (is) a Dead shrine. I'd never seen his office until we had a group meeting there, and it was just covered with photos and ticket stubs and Jerry bears etc. The moral is: You can put lots of stuff up if you're high enough on the totem pole! So that promotion is your "go" button :-)

Update - I took it down, and moved it to the recycling bin. How stupid is it to put up a fake GD poster! This is depressing, I guess I should just order a SYF mousepad or something, rather than put up phony artifacts ...

I was going to offer you this one because I never got around to doin' anything with it but I think you can order it cheaper than I can mail it to ya.

http://www.amazon.com/Grateful-Songs-Music-Poster-Print/dp/B000G6TCJ8

I think the most songs I have found is about 30 and then I get bored and I start forgettin' which songs I have found so far and then I just kind of drift back to work...

I LOVE that 100 songs poster. Very cool up close. Very distracting to have nearby if you want to get work done though. Had it on my wall in college, and used to stare at it all the time after hittin' the ol' bongeroo. I found all but 5 songs, after many, many hours spent staring at it.

Congrats on the promotion. Now you need to start playing Dead as "background music " in the office;)

Ha, yes. I can redecorate sonically, as well as decorating the walls ... ironically though, I need music less now, as I have the place to myself now, and no longer have to try to drown out other people's chatter.

Now I'm inspired to look for more posters, or other, er, discreet Dead related items. I took down a dreary set of impressionist prints - such a horrible cliche - and I'm looking forward to putting up things that reflect my own taste. I can't get too carried away with Grateful Dead, I have a respectable job :)

Hey! What's that supposed to mean?

So if you showed up like this to work from now on, it would be frowned upon?

My search for "crazy hippie" also yielded the following image that I thought I'd share:

No, not quite the image I cultivate. Ha!
I am so irked about the fake poster. I wrote a review of it on Amazon, and Amazon rejected the review. They won't tell you why, you just get an automated notice that you've violated some rule. I can't figure out why - I just said it was a fake poster, concert never happened.

Congrats(?) on your new position.
I hope it was a mutual thing. My boss is retarded too.
OH... retired! Sorry. What is it that you do?
(Im in medical billing)
(Im the low guy on the totem pole, so they CANT get rid of me, no one else wants the freakin job! so I get to do
whatever I want :) ) I know that doesnt make sense, but
it works.

Good luck to you and the redecorating. You know you can
get a poster of the Fall Tour of 95 if you look hard
enough. (it has a terrapin on it) Its crazy, but not phoney
This is what I get to look at every day just beyond the computer screen:

That is SOOOO funny you did that...ie, took it down. I completely agree; crappy...I hate it when "old stuff" turns out to be either new, or in this case, deceptive.

Is it copyright law that gets them to do it? IE, they just make stuff up, but merge known facts with falsehoods?
